Serving authentic Ethiopian cuisine in Winnipeg since 1997. Located at 533 Sargent Ave in the heart of the West End, Gojo Ethiopian Restaurant brings traditional injera, wots, tibs, and a real Ethiopian coffee ceremony to Manitoba — using time-honoured recipes, fresh ingredients, and warm Ethiopian hospitality.
Gojo Ethiopian Restaurant is an independent, family-owned Ethiopian restaurant in the heart of Winnipeg's West End at 533 Sargent Ave. Owned and operated by Solomon Meshesha, who immigrated to Canada from Ethiopia, Gojo has been one of Winnipeg's longest-running African restaurants and a cornerstone of the West End food scene since 1997.
We specialize in traditional Ethiopian dishes built around injera — a soft, spongy, gluten-free sourdough flatbread made from teff flour that serves as both plate and utensil. Our menu features rich doro wat, sautéed tibs, hand-prepared kitfo, hearty gomen be siga, and a colourful vegetarian combo platter, all seasoned with authentic berbere and mitmita spice blends and offered mild or spicy.
Gojo also offers a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony — a rare cultural experience in Winnipeg — making the restaurant a destination not just for a meal, but for a genuine taste of East African hospitality. Solomon personally walks first-time guests through the menu and the customs of communal Ethiopian dining, a tradition that has earned Gojo features by Tourism Winnipeg and a fiercely loyal local following.

Real Reviews from Happy Customers in Winnipeg
"We come here often for superb lunches. Highlights are the samosa (beef or veggie), the doro tibs (chicken) and the shiro wat (vegetarian). Not fancy, but great food at good prices. Food can be ordered mild or spicy. Well worth the trip from the suburbs!"
"I've had injera and Ethiopian food all over east Africa and Gojo in Winnipeg serves up some of the best yet. We had the tibs and a vegetarian platter and the food was full of flavour. Solomon the owner is a great host and we look forward to coming back."
"We've been wanting to try Ethiopian food for a while and tonight was the night! The owner greeted us with a smile and offered recommendations. He explained how to use the injera and what each portion of the dish consisted of. Excellent service, relaxing atmosphere — highly recommend!"
